What does \”stimulation\” mean?
Stimulating a child comes down to providing them with the right level of stimulation, at the right times of day and activity. There are generally two types of stimulation – physical and intellectual – both of which are equally essential. The same applies to raising a happy child; stimulating their intellect while encouraging their creativity, imagination and emotional development will ensure they grow up feeling contented and fulfilled. But how exactly do you stimulate your child?
Physical Stimulation When babies are young, they thrive off frequent feeding and cuddles, especially at night. Frequent feeding helps with digestion and makes them feel full without eating much; cuddling provides comfort and sleep for the infant. If they wake during feedings, simply hold them gently until they go back to sleep.
Their little bodies just don\’t know how to respond when starved, so you shouldn\’t worry too much if they cry for food in between meals. When they start teething, you may notice occasional drooling in between feeds. Singing songs, stories and nursery rhymes provide a great opportunity to learn language, maths and music.
It also teaches them basic skills like counting, problem solving and spatial awareness. You can even engage them in simple games such as playing cars or using blocks to build structures. Music has been proven to boost brain power too, so consider introducing musical toys or instruments into your home. Not only will this improve their motor skills, but it could help develop their ability to focus and pay attention.

A third is to encourage empathy through role reversal: let them take over the role of \’boss\’ and you act like their assistant.
Creative Stimulation Creativity is often considered a gift reserved for adults, but creative thinking is vital for children too. Learning to use the five senses in imaginative ways allows children to understand the world around them more deeply. For example, having a sensory box with objects like magnets and water drops will enable them to imagine other things that stick to these materials.
Alternatively, you could spend time creating imaginary scenarios in the form of a story, drawing or painting. Playful activities help stimulate creativity because they challenge your child\’s imagination and allow them to express themselves freely. It\’s important to remember not to force your child to try certain things though. Encourage them to experiment by asking them what they would do differently next time, and letting them be free to choose any activity that inspires them.
Spiritual Stimulation Many parents wonder whether spirituality should play a part in raising their children. Though some religions suggest that God created us in His image, you needn\’t necessarily follow those rules yourself. Just be sure to explain to your child why you believe that there is no higher power above, or that all humans come from the same source.
What matters most here is allowing your child to find their own beliefs, wherever they may lie. If you happen to share the same views as yours truly, that\’s fantastic! But if you don\’t, that\’s fine too. The key thing is you shouldn\’t try to influence each other, but instead discuss topics together openly. You can start this conversation at any time during their life, but once they reach school age is ideal.
